Developer platforms can help developers move faster, be more productive, and focus on delivering value.
Developer platforms empower thousands of engineers at Spotify to make the world's largest audio-streaming service. They are so crucial that Spotify created Backstage, an open platform for creating developer portals.
This presentation will discuss how Spotify's deployments infrastructure team integrated Kubernetes with Backstage to streamline developer productivity and how you can do the same.
Interview:
What's the focus of your work these days?
I work as a platform engineer in the deployment infrastructure space at Spotify. My focus is empowering developers to deploy quickly and safely whenever needed. I am also a project area maintainer for Kubernetes in the CNCF project Backstage.
What's the motivation for your talk at QCon New York 2023?
I want to share some learnings and benefits we have seen at Spotify when creating developer platforms. I am also passionate about increasing developer productivity and building developer tools. In this talk, I want to show that there are tools to make Kubernetes a little more understandable for newcomers.
How would you describe your main persona and target audience for this session?
My talk targets developers at any level with some Kubernetes experience, whether they are cluster admins looking to empower their users or developers looking to understand Kubernetes a little further.
Is there anything specific that you'd like people to walk away with after watching your session?
I would like them to know that there are tools out there to simplify developers' touch points with their org's Kubernetes setup.
